I love these detail studies! I think I saw this at the Uffizi Gallery. We had a wonderful trip at the beginning of the month, and we saw heavens full of beautiful stylized angels, many with colorful wings like the ones you painted here.
I came over from Following the Masters to say how much I like your painting, all the shapes and patterning. Looking at it makes me think modern artists didn't need to look to Japanese prints for flattening space; they just needed to look at the early Renaissance!
